Due to popular demand, this is a repeat of the one day training workshop delivered last February. It will provide a brief introduction to caring for and coping with collections of scientific instruments, industrial machinery and technological gizmos of all shapes and sizes. You will have an opportunity to explore the very diverse collections at M Shed and discuss the issues that arise in trying to collect, care for, identify, conserve, display, justify, interpret and – sometimes – dispose of, this sort of material.
Who should attend?
Museum staff and volunteers who care for these collections as part of their wider remit, but have limited experience or knowledge of working with them.
This booking page is specifically for those museums, galleries and National Trust properties who are part of the Science, Technology and Industry Specialist Subject Network outside the SW region.
What will you learn?
By the end of the session delegates will be able to work confidently with this sort of material, and will understand the best way to record and curate them.
Session Leader:
Andy King is Senior Collections Officer, Industrial & Maritime History and Working Exhibits for Bristol Museums Galleries & Archives.
The South West Museum Skills programme is delivered by the South West Federation on behalf of the South West Museum Development Partnership, funded by Arts Council England.
